Why Should I Keep the Ball Low?
Pickleball isn’t exactly what we think, but I do love learning new things, and I’m sure I’ll have a lot of fun playing it with my kids.
We’ve talked to our friends who are pickleball experts, and the first thing they recommend for us is to make sure our Pickleball ball is low. It needs to be at or below the level of your elbow joint so that you don’t risk hurting your hand by hitting the ball too hard.
They say that this ball should be a few inches below the level of your elbow joint, and it sounds like they’re right. The ball doesn’t bounce very high, so you must keep it away from your hands to prevent injuries and damage.
Some people recommend that you wear gloves while playing pickleball, so you won’t get your hand hurt, but we didn’t find that we had to use them and that they could keep the ball from bouncing too high. It seemed to work fine, just fine with our bare hands.
They say that when the ball is at or below the level of your elbow joint, the ball bounces lower, and there’s no risk of hitting the ground, so we’re going to keep the ball low and keep ourselves safe.
3 Easy Tips To Keep The Ball Low In Pickleball
Few things in life are more fun than playing pickup games. And the most enjoyable part about it is the action on the court and the fact that the ball never gets too hot. So when we play, we always try to keep the ball as low as possible. Now the ball is usually pretty low. I mean, it doesn’t go past the bottom of your chest. And that’s great. But it’s not what we want to do. We want to move the ball and play it nice and high.
Here’s a tip to help you achieve this.
Tip #1: Minimize the Position
Try to aim for an elevated position before you play the shot. You might find it easier to play the ball if you’re standing at least a few inches off the ground.
Tip #2: Keep Your Paddle Angle Low
Another thing you can do is play the ball high in the air. When you make a shot, swing it back high into the air instead of dropping the ball to the ground. Don’t worry about where the ball lands – let the wind blow it down.
To achieve this, you’ll need to use your body’s momentum. That is the power behind your swing. That is the force behind your shot.
It might take a little practice to get it right, but once you start, you’ll be amazed at how much easier it becomes to play the ball higher. You’ll be able to make longer shots, and you won’t have to bend your knees.
Tip #3: Strike the Ball
Now there’s another problem to consider here. You won’t get much spin on hitting the ball at such a high elevation. So you’ll have to compensate for that. Try aiming for the sides of the net when you play.

How do you Increase ball Control in Pickleball?
Pickleball is a simple sport with many variables that can affect your game. For example, the speed of the ball. The ball bounces at a low rate if you play a slow game. If you play at a fast pace, the ball will bounce much higher.
The key is keeping the ball moving slowly to give yourself ample time to move out of the way. Another variable is the height of the bounce, and you need to be able to adjust your technique in order to hit the ball effectively.
The trick is to learn the timing. If you are slow, then you need to start by taking longer strides. If you’re playing at a higher bounce, you’ll need to start taking smaller strides and a bigger stance.
Technique to Control Ball
You can use a technique to improve your game and develop your own pickleball stroke. Start with the basic fundamentals, and build from there. If you want to work on ball control, you should look at these techniques:
Learn to pivot. If you start by pushing, you won’t be able to get out of the way quickly enough. Instead, pivot to avoid the ball coming towards your body.
Practice footwork. Footwork is one of the most important factors determining how fast and effective your strokes are.
Practice short quick hits. You should aim to hit the ball once every time that you hit it. The goal is to have the ball bounce and return to your hand before it reaches the ground.
Practice footwork drills. Get yourself into a comfortable position to work on your footwork. Move around to create movement with your feet, which will help you maintain good balance.
Practicing these techniques will improve your pickleball technique and help you improve your ball control.
While your feet are off the table (for now), your feet should plant firmly on the ground. As in, you should be balanced and ready to respond to all the balls coming your way.
This means that when the ball rolls toward you, you should drop your body so that it is ready to block the shot if it comes your way.
